Applying for a new job, whether it's as a London architect or a Raleigh retail store manager, can be tough. It's especially harder for people who haven't had to apply for a new job in a long time but are only doing so because of the current economic landscape. Applying for a job and taking part in a job interview are no easy things. No matter how much experience you have teaching at an English as a second language Canada school, it might never be enough for the company you're applying to.
You shouldn't be discouraged, though. You need to be confident in yourself and your job skills. Whenever you're applying for a new job at an electronic design consultant firm or a fast food restaurant, make sure you are presenting yourself and your job skills as fully as you can. It is always a good thing to highlight your previous experience, qualifications and skill set to your new potential employer. It doesn't matter if you are applying for a job as an assistant manger at a department clothing store and only have experience working at a trade mark Canadian firm. Market everything you used to do at your previous job so the people looking at your cover letter, resume and application can grasp what it is you can do. Even though you might not have any experience selling clothes, you might have a lot of experience dealing with clients. Which is something very important in the retail industry. The person in charge of hiring will see that in your resume and feel more confident in your abilities.
Experience is an asset but it's not everything. Lots of companies today, be it catering Toronto companies or Raleigh car dealerships, offer job training. So, don't be afraid to apply for a job you have no previous experience in. However, make sure to play up any experience you have from other previous jobs. Just the fact that you have held other jobs in the past shows a potential employer that you are hardworking and do have some sort of job experience. Most companies are hesitant in hiring people without any job experience because they're afraid of hiring a potential dud.
When applying for a new job, go out of your way to highlight your skills and experience. Make your resume and application shine and show those companies you are applying to that you are someone they should take a chance on. The more you can do to your application to make them notice you, the better. Good luck! |
